The Sun Is So it Can Be a Great Day
A Hole is to Dig, by Ruth Krauss with pictures by Maurice Sendak, 1952
Pages 46 - 47
Archival pigment ink print on 300 gsm rag paper.
Realized from Sendak’s pen and ink drawing on paper, 6.5 inches tall by 10.25 inches, prints are available in two sizes– at the same size as the original, and as an enlargement at 7.5 inches tall by 12 inches wide, printed on a 9.75 inches x 14 inches sheet with a background that has been tinted a warm white. The text is in a reddish-brown, simulating the type in the book. The first picture of the listing displays the print as you will receive it; the second picture displays Sendak’s original layout with paste-ups and white gouache corrections. This drawing was included in the traveling exhibition, The Art of Maurice Sendak which opened at the Columbus Museum of Art. The exhibition was subsequently mounted at the Skirball Cultural Center and in a greatly expanded form at Denver Art Museum.
